Les Numéros

1 – un, une
2 – deux
3 – trois
4 – quatre
5 – cinq
6 – six
7 – sept
8 – huit
9 – neuf
10 – dix
11 – onze
12 – douze
13 – treize
14 – quatorze
15 – quinze
16 – seize
17 – dix-sept
18 – dix-huit
19 – dix-neuf
20 – vingt

Numbers in French basically follow the same pattern as in English. The exception is the numbers between 70-99, but they’re still pretty simple.
The decades are as follows
20 – vingt
30 – trente
40 – quarante
50 – cinquante
60 – soixante
* 70 – soixante-dix
80 – quatre- vingts
*90 – quatre- vingt- dix

For the #’s 21-69, it’s a very simple breakdown. There’s the tens unit and the ones unit, just like in English
21 – vingt-et-un (for all the “one’s”, one adds in an “et”)
22 – vingt deux (literally the word for “twenty” and the word for “two” – just like in English)
23 – vingt trois (vingt = 20, trois = 3)
24 – vingt quatre
25 – vingt cinq
26 – vingt six
27 – vingt sept
28 – vingt huit
29 – vingt neuf

more examples –
31 – trente-et-un
35 – trente cinq
42 – quarante deux
57 – cinquante sept
64 – soixante quatre

Now for the “hard” stuff.

The 70′s
70 is soixante-dix – which translates to sixty-ten.
71 naturally is soixante-onze – which translates to sixty-eleven
72 – soixante-douze – sixty-twelve
73 – soixante-treize – sixty-thirteen (see the pattern?)
74 – soixante-quatorze – sixty-fourteen
75 – soixante-quinze – sixty-fifteen
76 – soixante-seize
77 – soixante-dix-sept
78 – soixante-dix-huit
79 – soixante-dix-neuf

The 80′s follow the standard (tens and ones) pattern.
80 – quatre-vingts
81 – quatre-vingt-un
82 – quatre-vingt-deux
83 – quatre-vingt-trois
84 – quatre-vingt-quatre
85 – quatre-vingt-cinq
86 – quatre-vingt-six
87 – quatre-vingt-sept
88 – quatre-vingt-huit
89 – quatre-vingt-neuf

The 90′s – go back to the goofy 70′s pattern
90 – quatre-vingt-dix – eighty ten
91 – quatre-vingt-onze – eighty eleven
92 – quatre-vingt-douze – eighty twelve
93 – quatre-vingt-treize – eighty thirteen
94 – quatre-vingt-quatorze – eighty fourteen
95 – quatre-vingt-quinze
96 – quatre-vingt-seize
97 – quatre-vingt-dix-sept
98 – quatre-vingt-dix-huit
99 – quatre-vingt-dix-neuf

100 – cent (plain old cent – NOT un cent)
1,000 – mille (plain old mille – NOT une mille)
Everything else is exactly like the English pattern of doing number.
